Review directly from Vieux Chateau Certan: "The 2009 is balanced, concentrated and warm without being overpowering. The Merlot is dense, rich, smooth and full-bodied and shows variety. The small amount of Cabernet Franc that was selected for the first wine is full of finesse. The wine is ripe, complex, and loaded with flavor that lingers on the palate for a very long time. The Cabernet Sauvignon is lively, delicious and spicy. Although its proportion in the blend is small, it brings a touch of freshness that is essential to the final blend."

Vieux Château Certan

Vieux Château Certan is the oldest Cru located in the commune of Pomerol. Its origin dates back to the 16th century when travelers from Scotland, the Demay family, settled here. In 1924, Georges Thienpont, a négociant from Belgium, took over the château. The estate was then used by an association of heirs until 1957.

The vineyards of Vieux Château Certan are located right in the middle of the famous plateau in Pomerol, renowned worldwide for its grands crus. Another advantage is undoubtedly the configuration of the vineyards, which are located in a block, so their quality is very consistent. The percentage composition of the wines is specific to the Pomerol appellation; here at the château, they work with a high proportion of Cabernets, which give the wines their uniqueness. Like all great grands crus from Médoc, this wine is best appreciated after 10-12 years of aging when it reveals all its finesse, elegance, and unparalleled precision.
