Organic wine production means making wine in accordance with the principles of organic farming. This method involves several key principles and rules that ensure the wine is produced in the most natural and gentle way possible.

Permitted protective agents

In organic wine production, only protective agents based on elemental sulfur and copper are allowed. These substances are used to protect plants from diseases and pests, with minimal impact on the environment. In addition, some microbial preparations that support healthy plant growth and resistance can be used.

Ban on herbicides

One of the main rules of organic production is the ban on herbicides. These chemical substances, commonly used to kill weeds, can negatively affect the soil microbiome and vineyard biodiversity. Instead of herbicides, organic production uses mechanical methods, such as hand weeding or mulching, which keep weeds under control without the use of chemicals.

Limiting conventional fertilizers

In organic wine production, conventional industrial fertilizers are not allowed. These fertilizers often contain synthetic chemicals that can contaminate soil and water sources. Instead, organic production uses natural fertilizers, such as compost, green manure, or fertilization with organic matter. This maintains the natural fertility of the soil and promotes its long-term health.
