Margaux
The Margaux appellation is located 25 km north of Bordeaux and is one of the most renowned terroirs in the Bordeaux region. Margaux includes 21 classified estates from the 1855 Bordeaux classification (20 of which still exist), more than any other appellation on the left bank of the Gironde River.
This appellation is known for producing elegant and aromatic wines, primarily from the Cabernet Sauvignon variety, celebrated for its excellent structure and long aging potential. The character of Margaux wines is best described as 'an iron fist in a velvet glove.' The poor terroir contributes to their remarkable tannin structure, allowing the wines to evolve beautifully over time while maintaining the charm and delicacy that are typical of Margaux.
