Château Paloumey has a relatively long history, with its wines being highly sought after as early as the 19th century. It experienced significant growth, particularly in the early 19th century under the leadership of Octave Dupuy, a Bordeaux wine merchant. It received very good ratings in the 1868 Féret guide.
Unfortunately, it is one of the wineries that suffered heavily during both world wars and the economic crisis of the 1930s, and essentially ceased to exist in the 1950s. Its revival was spearheaded by Martine Cazeneuve, an economics professor originally from Blaye with experience in managing wineries. In the late 1980s, she sought a winery on the left bank and eventually decided to resurrect Paloumey.
The estate has vineyards covering an area of 34 hectares. The wines mature in oak barrels for 12 months, with 30% of the barrels being new.
