The 2012 Château Les Trois Croix is always a bit lighter in style, but otherwise beautifully fragrant and lightly earthy with plenty of minerality (very dry) to dominate the complex flavor profile. The understated acidity detracts a little from the freshness, but the wine is built for long aging, so there is plenty of time for any final judgments. At the moment it seems perfect. The palate is fruity and spicy (blackcurrant, black cherry, vanilla) with a strong mineral accent and beautifully ripe, slightly sweet tannins. The ageing potential is enormous. Drinkable 2017 - 2027.

Château Les Trois Croix

Château Les Trois Croix is a historic winery located in the Fronsac appellation on Bordeaux's right bank. Evidence of its age is the year 1712 carved into the local stone tower, showing it to be one of the oldest estates in the region. Another interesting feature is the origin of its name, which comes from the unique position of its vineyards spanning three villages—Fronsac, Saillans, and St Aignan. The estate is named 'Les Trois Croix' (translated as 'The Three Crosses'), a reference to the bell towers in these three villages. The terroir consists of calcareous and clay soils, and from the vineyards located at one of the highest points in Fronsac (up to 87 meters above sea level), there is an exceptional view of the Isle Valley, and in the distance, the vineyards of Saint-Émilion and Pomerol can be seen.

The 20-hectare vineyard is planted primarily with Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%) and also includes old vines that were planted in the 1940s. Wines from Château Les Trois Croix are known for their mineral character and flavors of red fruits, smoke, and a subtle hint of salt.

The importance of this winery increased significantly after 1995, when it was purchased by the family of Patrick Léon, who aimed for quality and had a passion for life in Fronsac. Patrick Léon also worked at Château Mouton Rothschild and Opus One. After his death in 2018, his son Bertrand Léon took over the management.
