Château Grand Puy Lacoste

At Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste, located north of the main road connecting Pauillac with Saint-Laurent, the highest point rises to about twenty meters. 'Grand Puy' means 'big hill,' and thus a constantly blowing Atlantic wind. This plays an important role in draining the vineyards, increasing the value of the estate.

Lacoste is the name of the family that owned the estate from the early 18th to the mid-19th century. From 1932 to 1978, the estate was owned by Raymond Dupin, the president of the Médoc Union of Cru Classé. Then, the aging Dupin decided to hand over the reins to Jean-Eugène Borie and his son, Francois-Xavier. Francois-Xavier still takes care of the winery today.

Recently, a comprehensive modernization of the production facilities was carried out. The vineyards cover 55 hectares and are planted with 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc.

Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste wine matures for 16 to 18 months in oak barrels (two-thirds of which are new), while Lacoste-Borie matures for 14 to 16 months in oak barrels (of which 45% are new barrels).
