Chateau G D´Estournel
The history of G d'Estournel began at the start of this millennium when Château Cos d'Estournel acquired a stunning terroir in northern Médoc. This wine was previously known as Goulée du Ch. d'Estournel. With the 2004 vintage, a new wine was produced by the Cos d'Estournel team, and with the 2020 vintage, it rebranded its identity.
The Goulée vineyard is located in northern Médoc on a gravel-covered hillside that slopes down towards the Gironde estuary. Goulée, once an island surrounded by the estuary's waters, boasts a deep gravelly terroir worthy of the finest Grands Crus and is vinified by the Cos d'Estournel team. The average planting density of 5,700 vines per hectare goes hand in hand with high varietal training to achieve optimal photosynthesis. As with all major Médoc terroirs, the Goulée vines are hand-cultivated and harvested.
The Goulée vineyard enjoys an exceptionally mild climate where Médoc's two main grape varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon (80%) and Merlot (20%), thrive under optimal conditions. This climatic specificity gives Goulée wine a fruity character reminiscent of New World wines.
