Château Carbonnieux

Château Carbonnieux is one of the oldest wineries in the Bordeaux region. The land here has been continuously cultivated since the 18th century. The château is an imposing estate, founded in the 14th century with more than twelve defensive towers. The first owners and vineyard keepers were Benedictine monks from the Abbey of Saint-Croix in Bordeaux, who quickly gave both white and red wines an international reputation. Even the white wine here, with its light and clear color, was included at the Sultan of Constantinople's palace under the name 'mineral water from Carbonnieux' to avoid the laws of the Koran.

Carbonnieux has passed from father to son since the early 19th century and has been owned by the Perrin family for over fifty years. It is situated on the heights of the commune of Léognan, ideally irrigated by a natural spring called l'Eau Blanche, or White Spring. The terroir of Carbonnieux is extremely favorable for white wines of exceptional quality and finer red wines.

Vineyard area: 92 hectares of vineyards, totaling 190 hectares. Soil base: deep gravel from the Garonne. Aging time in oak barrels: 10 months, 25% new barrels. The name of the second wine: La Croix de Carbonnieux.
