Cadillac Cotes de Bordeaux
Côtes de Bordeaux Cadillac (often referred to as Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux in publications) is the appellation for Côtes de Bordeaux red wines produced specifically in the area around Cadillac, to the west of the Entre-deux-Mers appellation in Bordeaux.
Until 2009, these wines were marketed under the name Premières Côtes de Bordeaux. Today, that designation is reserved exclusively for sweet white wines, while Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux now covers red wines from the same region.
Both regions encompass 39 municipalities (and smaller appellations), including Cadillac, Loupiac, and Sainte-Croix-du-Mont, all of which are associated with the production of quality sweet white wines, which originally brought fame to the region.
All Côtes de Bordeaux Cadillac wines are red, primarily made from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, with Malbec, Petit Verdot, and even Carmenère also permitted. Merlot is the dominant variety, producing well-structured wines that are approachable and flexible, even when young. The total vineyard area under this appellation covers approximately 1,000 hectares.
