Brut
Brut wine, sometimes also called "hard" wine, is one of the categories of sparkling wines that determines the sweetness of the beverage. This type of sparkling wine, also known as "sekt," has a sugar content not exceeding 12 grams per liter. Most wineries, however, keep the sugar level at 5-7 grams per liter, equivalent to common dry wines.
Brut is the most common type of sparkling wine. Due to its low sugar content and high acidity, it has a very dry impression, making it an ideal choice for refreshing during hot summer days, as an aperitif, or when paired with food. Brut wine is characterized by fruity and floral tones, sometimes with almond notes, but the taste can vary depending on the specific grape variety used for its production.
In terms of food pairing, Brut wine is an excellent choice for fish, seafood, and sushi. Its acidity and dry character also pair well with rich and fatty foods, such as cheese dishes, pasta, and risottos. From specific cheeses, you might try Brie or Parmesan. Brut wine is also a great choice for festive dinners, such as Christmas Eve fish with potato salad, where its lively acidity complements the dish's flavors perfectly.
Although Brut is a very dry sparkling wine, it is not the driest. Categories such as Brut Nature and Extra Brut, with even lower sugar content, precede it.
